Among DD&F’s impressive array of work at Chase Field, there is one contribution DD&F has made to the ballpark that is destined to be the most beloved: The Sandlot. DD&F can proudly take credit for working from the conceptual layout, to design and build-out of a dynamic interactive play area for young fans, including Future’s Field. Complete with baseball diamond and windows in its outfield that open and close using computer automation, this miniature version of Chase Field gives aspiring ball players a chance to see what it feels like to hit one out of the park themselves.

DD&F implemented environmental graphics, a distinct entry statement and custom picket fence border, to infuse the area with a sense of continuity and kid-friendly atmosphere. DD&F also created valuable sponsorship opportunities throughout The Sandlot, which features a full playground and toddler play area and is joined by a variety of other kid-friendly attractions such as a stage for D-backs mascot, Baxter the Bobcat. Located on the third level, overlooking left field, The Sandlot was developed for partner St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. Through DD&F efforts, the play area was ready in time for its 2008 unveiling.

This year, DD&F helped update Baxter the Bobcat’s clubhouse by incorporating some new and fun elements into the photo opportunity and stage area. DD&F designed a new facade for the existing stage taking young fans away from the ballpark to Baxter’s porch. Complete with a refrigerator of snacks, a scratching post, and D-Backs branding, young fans can now visit Baxter in an exciting new space. We especially like the white paw prints that cover the roof!

DD&F loves creating interactive children’s environments that take a young fan’s experience from an ordinary trip to the ballpark to a magical and memorable day with their favorite team.

Check out some of the videos of these cool creations in the making. http://www.youtube.com/user/DDandF

Spring Training is always such a fun time here in the Valley! DD&F has had the opportunity the past couple years to update the branded environment out at the San Francisco Giants Baseball Club in Scottsdale.

Some of the project specifics include incorporating the San Francisco skyline into the wall of the Sports and Medicine training room and updating the San Francisco Giant gym with other minor league logos. DD&F spruced up the lobby and baseball club entry with frosted window graphics and a vinyl “Champions” logo on entry glass. Various logos, signage and quotes were also placed throughout the weight room, pool room and meeting rooms.

DD&F also updated the gate signs, an exterior monument sign and a brushed aluminum sign panel with dimensional elements and updated their current signage to reflect their “world champion” status!

We recently wrapped up our seventh retail-branded environment for Maracay Homes, assisting them with implementing a new design direction for their sales centers. Maracay initially brought us on board to provide a powerful set of interior and exterior signage for the Stonefield Colony sales center located in Chandler. As we moved through the project, the client seemed to really enjoy our work.

Upon completeing the initial assignment, we were thrilled to hear that they were interested in expanding the project by having us provide complete, turnkey services at the new sales centers located in Chandler, Good Year and Marana.

We utilized our turnkey services in fabrication, millwork, signage and value engineering to bring this concept to life. Project details included fabricating and installing a complete interior for the sales center and signage for both the salescenter and the model. The interior contained custom wall build-outs, which contained dynamic lifestyle images and phrases. The custom millwork was a combination of specialty wood veneer, and a custom lacquer, high gloss finish. The bright, bold colors mixed with crisp whites will provide an energetic atmosphere for prospective buyers. Some stand-out features inside include a translucent, double-sided aerial photo of the community, window imaging, and various decorative and text imaging on the walls.

A few multimedia features include an interactive touch-screen topographic map, allowing agents a better opportunity to give prospective buyers a more in-depth look at the community and surrounding areas and a custom welcome kiosk featuring a sign-in station. We also created a marketing trailer which the builder will use for freeway recognition. For more information about Maracay Homes please visit their website at www.maracayhomes.com.

We LOVE to re-use and re-purpose in our projects! With creative juices flowing, we bought a used electric utility cart for us to use to drive between our two facilities and onsite at installations. We decided that the all white cart needed some color, and decided to design it as a custom vehicle for DD&F.

As you can see, the staff was inspired to give the cart a ”military look,” and they had a blast coming up with more ideas. The cart was painted silver with a faux finish to make it look older and worn. We used custom graphics, aircraft stencils, and custom buttons on the dash, bumpers, side rails and steering wheel and we printed the canvas seat. As you can see, there is even some hidden branding for DD&F in many of the elements. Below are some great photos of finished product!

PHOENIX (May 21, 2010) – Children and adults alike will soon have the opportunity to experience the brand-new, interactive learning environment, Solarville in the APS Solar Gallery, which will debut at the Arizona Science Center on Sunday, May 23. Solarville is an interactive learning environment demonstrating sun, wind, and algae as alternative energy sources. Sponsored by APS, the original concepts for Solarville were designed by local creative firm, Campbell Fisher Design (CFD) and the project was fabricated by Detail Design and Fabrication (DD&F.)

CFD’s creative direction was centered on taking a trip through a town called Solarville, an eco-friendly environment located in the APS Solar Gallery on Level 4. Guests stroll down Main Street, pass a transit station, industrial park, retail store, school, recreational area and a home while learning how solar and other renewable energy sources can be utilized in their daily lives.

“We were awarded the opportunity to transform a dark and non-traditional educational space into a bright and energetic learning experience that is not only fun and engaging, but teaches kids and adults about renewable energy and conservation,” said Greg Fisher, owner of Campbell Fisher Design.

DD&F worked closely with CFD, further enhancing the creativity of the project and bringing the exhibit to life. The colorful hallway is approximately 1800 square foot, 10 feet wide x 180 feet long and consists of 22 interactive kiosks and exhibits. Although DD&F remodeled or updated some of the exhibits, others were completely brand new concepts.

The exhibits and interactive elements that DD&F fabricated range from scientific labs that study the sun, interactive learning kiosks, as well as ways to show how we can harness and distribute sustainable green energy – from algae, to alternative fuels, to poop! Other exhibits allow participants to create power, such as the “Pedal Power” exhibit where bikes were designed to show human power and the efficiency difference of LED vs. CFL vs. incandescent lighting.

In addition to the interactive elements, DD&F also fabricated and installed the gallery signage, imaging and ceiling treatments in-house. Vertical wall extensions were accomplished by using full-color digitally printed banners. The additional 10 feet of printed graphic extended the overall height to 20 feet. Design elements such as stretch canvas triangles were used as a ceiling treatment to bring the space together.

“We were honored to team up with CFD to fabricate this exhibit for APS and Arizona Science Center,” said Shad Bruce, owner of DD&F. “We have enjoyed working with the Arizona Science Center on a variety of different exhibits and projects the past few years and Solarville was a very stimulating and challenging adventure. DD&F was able to take part in a very large science project, and we are all very pleased with the outcome of Solarville.”

ABOUT DD&F

The “Lennar mini house” will be used for their sponsorship with the Arizona Cardinals. This mini, mobile marketing tool has windows that open, providing an interactive football toss for fans and promotions.

The mini house was constructed from wood and metal. Once the structure was complete, it was painted and vinyl graphics were applied. It is 7-foot wide by 10-foot long by 8-foot tall and is mounted to a custom trailer. The mobility of the house enables Lennar to move back and forth to various events throughout Arizona. The fold-down side panels allow Lennar to display their marketing information. A trailer was custom modified to accommodate easy transportation for various promotional events.

DD&F also designed the Lennar mini house to resemble a real house, complete with a white picket fence and a front door. There are also four removable flag poles that are customized with both Lennar and Cardinals logos.

Go Lennar and the Arizona Cardinals!

UPTOWN is a new branded environment that was created to further enhance the D-Backs fan experience. The Diamondbacks named UPTOWN as the new fan zone, located behind the All-Star in right field where fans can cheer for Justin Upton and the D-backs.

The project started as a logo idea and evolved through brainstorming sessions. Renderings were produced by DD&F and upon design approval the project was submitted for engineering. Once approval was complete, the in-house fabrication and production began and the branded environment was built in one and a half weeks and installed by the DD&F team just days before opening day.

UPTOWN consists of two large overhead signs; one on the concourse, and one over the right field seats. Each sign measures at approximately six feet high and 35 feet wide, and weighs almost 860 lbs.

DD&F also designed the D-Backs 10-foot custom column surrounds to cover the existing square and rectangular concrete support columns. DD&F used steel to fabricate the external framework and then used a full color digital print with a protective laminate mounted to a lexan panel to create the graphics. These were mounted to the inside of the painted steel frame. DD&F also added branded imaging on railing, steps and throughout this concourse area, making this area really pop with color.

Other projects that DD&F have designed and fabricated at Chase Field include The Sandlot, the 35-foot high Miller beer bottle, the Diamond Club, full wall murals throughout each concourse and the huge 2007 Diamondback image transformation.

DD&F’s Creativity Continues to Spark Fan Interest at the Track PHOENIX (November 21, 2009) – Local creative fabrication studio, Detail Design and Fabrication (DD&F), continues to impress Arizona sports facilities with their creative and unique venue updates and project renderings. November is race time here in the Valley, and DD&F has just finished installing their third custom environment, and eighth collaborative project with Phoenix International Raceway (PIR); The Richard Petty Raceway. The one-of-a-kind track is the first-ever kart track at a NASCAR facility.

DD&F began the sponsorship environment installation at the beginning of November, and after two weeks, it is now complete in time for fans to enjoy during the Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 race weekend at PIR November 13-15.

From concept to creation, DD&F has handled all elements of this project; including some initial value engineering to stay within the client’s budget. DD&F began with design renderings, and from there produced CAD drawings for production, delivery and installation. Mild steel, aluminum and 3M digital graphics (printed in house) were just a few of the materials used for the project.

The track itself measures in at 1/16 of a mile, and is located on PIR’s Midway, just inside Gate 4. At 20 feet wide, the structure features a 10 foot flagman tower which is able to support two people. The design will include a 24 foot wide overhead entry, and the starter stand with catch fence and sponsorship signage. The layout includes a pit and garage area, as well as grandstand seating where each driver’s “fans” can gather and show support.

“We are so excited to be part of these unique fan experiences time after time out at PIR, and making environments come to life.” said Shad Bruce, owner of DD&F. “Our team really focused on making the mini replica track similar to PIR, while tying in colors and design elements to complement the look and feel of Richard Petty’s Driving Experience. The track just adds to the awesome atmosphere out at PIR, combining racing and fun for fans.”

The venue will allow first-hand entertainment for fans 16 and older at just $20 a session. The racing experience will provide fans with a unique opportunity to test their racing skills against five other competitors in 9hp high-performance karts, which have been provided by the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Drivers will receive detailed instructions prior to racing, and are required to put on fire suits, and helmets.

A grand opening for Richard Petty Raceway is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, November 13. Petty – NASCAR’s all-time wins leader and Raceway namesake – is scheduled to appear, along with Reed Sorenson, the current driver of the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Dodge.

DD&F has collaborated with PIR throughout the past five years to update fundamental graphics, signage, and created other unique environments around the track. This April, DD&F designed the Budweiser ROLL-BAR a themed sponsorship and entertainment environment located on the site of the former “Raceway Club.” DD&F has also designed the SPEED Cantina, a one-of-a-kind sports bar and grill located just outside Turn 2. About DD&F DD&F specialties include innovative signage, interactive exhibits, kiosks, trade show booths, and all aspects of 3D components for interior or exterior environments, such as retail centers, sales offices and sports facilities. Some of their clients include the Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix International Raceway, Arizona Cardinals, Pulte Homes, Westcor, and Children’s Museum of Phoenix.
