PHOENIX (May 21, 2010) – Children and adults alike will soon have the opportunity to experience the brand-new, interactive learning environment, Solarville in the APS Solar Gallery, which will debut at the Arizona Science Center on Sunday, May 23. Solarville is an interactive learning environment demonstrating sun, wind, and algae as alternative energy sources. Sponsored by APS, the original concepts for Solarville were designed by local creative firm, Campbell Fisher Design (CFD) and the project was fabricated by Detail Design and Fabrication (DD&F.)

CFD’s creative direction was centered on taking a trip through a town called Solarville, an eco-friendly environment located in the APS Solar Gallery on Level 4. Guests stroll down Main Street, pass a transit station, industrial park, retail store, school, recreational area and a home while learning how solar and other renewable energy sources can be utilized in their daily lives.

“We were awarded the opportunity to transform a dark and non-traditional educational space into a bright and energetic learning experience that is not only fun and engaging, but teaches kids and adults about renewable energy and conservation,” said Greg Fisher, owner of Campbell Fisher Design.

DD&F worked closely with CFD, further enhancing the creativity of the project and bringing the exhibit to life. The colorful hallway is approximately 1800 square foot, 10 feet wide x 180 feet long and consists of 22 interactive kiosks and exhibits. Although DD&F remodeled or updated some of the exhibits, others were completely brand new concepts.

The exhibits and interactive elements that DD&F fabricated range from scientific labs that study the sun, interactive learning kiosks, as well as ways to show how we can harness and distribute sustainable green energy – from algae, to alternative fuels, to poop! Other exhibits allow participants to create power, such as the “Pedal Power” exhibit where bikes were designed to show human power and the efficiency difference of LED vs. CFL vs. incandescent lighting.

In addition to the interactive elements, DD&F also fabricated and installed the gallery signage, imaging and ceiling treatments in-house. Vertical wall extensions were accomplished by using full-color digitally printed banners. The additional 10 feet of printed graphic extended the overall height to 20 feet. Design elements such as stretch canvas triangles were used as a ceiling treatment to bring the space together.

“We were honored to team up with CFD to fabricate this exhibit for APS and Arizona Science Center,” said Shad Bruce, owner of DD&F. “We have enjoyed working with the Arizona Science Center on a variety of different exhibits and projects the past few years and Solarville was a very stimulating and challenging adventure. DD&F was able to take part in a very large science project, and we are all very pleased with the outcome of Solarville.”

Since 2007, Detail Design and Fabrication (DD&F), has been the official sign and graphic partner of the Arizona Diamondbacks. DD&F was recently challenged to come up with a re-design to the traditional Plinko style game. KaChingKo was created, and is now the Arizona Diamondbacks newest in-game promotion.

DD&F started with design renderings, to refine the size and mechanical workings of the game. The D-Backs arrived at naming the project KaChingKo, and the project was released for production. Materials used for the game were steel, aluminum, lexan backer with a clear front cover and large format prints.

The portable game is on wheels, and is unique because of its size and electronic rotating center which is operated by an electric motor with a reduction gearbox and chain drive to rotate the 8-foot circle. The KaChingKo game uses six-inch-wide plastic pucks, which are dropped down into approximately 93 pins that redirect the puck in addition to the center rotating. The project took the DD&F team three weeks to design and create.

During an inning break of each D-backs home game, a KaChingKo contestant will be featured on the dbTV scoreboard while dropping a game piece down the prize board for a chance to win great prizes.

Detail Design and Fabrication Completes Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center
Barrow’s Neurological Institute celebrated the grand opening of MAPC on December 3

PHOENIX (December 08, 2009) – Detail Design and Fabrication (DD&F) located in Phoenix, just recently completed interior imaging and donor signage for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center (MAPC) project at Barrow Neurological Institute. DD&F teamed with architects, Trinity Healthgroup, to transform the brand-new 9,100 square foot space in the Muhammad and Lonnie Ali Pavilion at the Barrow Neurological Institute. This brand-new space will allow MAPC to expand their services to patients providing them with the quality care they need.

The growth and success of the Center over the past year is due in part to the Celebrity Fight Night Foundation. DD&F’s created a special donor wall in honor of the Celebrity Fight Night Foundation, which is recognized as one of the nation’s elite charity events.

DD&F also created an incredible entry element for the center that showcases a timeline of Muhammad Ali’s career and life. The 90-foot curved wall has nine photos and images that are placed in a timeline format though out the wall. They were also in charge of the Lynn Diamond Balance Center wall area, the Grossman wall, and two custom 3-D torches that are 7 feet tall.

The interior imaging throughout the MAPC was created with glass panels with metal, vinyl letters, and lumicor panels. The amazing photos used for the interior imaging were taken by Howard Bingham, Dennis Skully and Richard Corman.

“It was such a privilege to be involved with such a professional team for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center,” stated DD&F owner Shad Bruce. We are very pleased with the final product.”

As a National Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence, the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center (MAPC) at Barrow Neurological Institute provides diagnostic and treatment services, research, and education for those whose lives have been touched by Parkinson’s disease. In addition to clinical services, the Center also conducts extensive research in new medical and surgical treatments for Parkinson’s disease and related disorders.

The grand opening for the New Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center took place on December 3, to celebrate the future of healthcare for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. For more information on the MAPC please visit www.maprc.com

About DD&F
November is race time here in the Valley, and DD&F has just finished installing their third custom environment, and eighth collaborative project with Phoenix International Raceway (PIR); The Richard Petty Raceway. The one-of-a-kind track is the first-ever kart track at a NASCAR facility.

DD&F began the sponsorship environment installation at the beginning of November, and after two weeks, it is now complete in time for fans to enjoy during the Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 race weekend at PIR November 13-15.

From concept to creation, DD&F has handled all elements of this project; including some initial value engineering to stay within the client’s budget. DD&F began with design renderings, and from there produced CAD drawings for production, delivery and installation. Mild steel, aluminum and 3M digital graphics (printed in house) were just a few of the materials used for the project.

The track itself measures in at 1/16 of a mile, and is located on PIR’s Midway, just inside Gate 4. At 20 feet wide, the structure features a 10 foot flagman tower which is able to support two people. The design will include a 24 foot wide overhead entry, and the starter stand with catch fence and sponsorship signage. The layout includes a pit and garage area, as well as grandstand seating where each driver’s “fans” can gather and show support.

“We are so excited to be part of these unique fan experiences time after time out at PIR, and making environments come to life.” said Shad Bruce, owner of DD&F. “Our team really focused on making the mini replica track similar to PIR, while tying in colors and design elements to complement the look and feel of Richard Petty’s Driving Experience. The track just adds to the awesome atmosphere out at PIR, combining racing and fun for fans.”

The venue will allow first-hand entertainment for fans 16 and older at just $20 a session. The racing experience will provide fans with a unique opportunity to test their racing skills against five other competitors in 9hp high-performance karts, which have been provided by the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Drivers will receive detailed instructions prior to racing, and are required to put on fire suits, and helmets.

A grand opening for Richard Petty Raceway is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, November 13. Petty – NASCAR’s all-time wins leader and Raceway namesake – is scheduled to appear, along with Reed Sorenson, the current driver of the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Dodge.

DD&F has collaborated with PIR throughout the past five years to update fundamental graphics, signage, and created other unique environments around the track. This April, DD&F designed the Budweiser ROLL-BAR a themed sponsorship and entertainment environment located on the site of the former “Raceway Club.” DD&F has also designed the SPEED Cantina, a one-of-a-kind sports bar and grill located just outside Turn 2. About DD&F DD&F specialties include innovative signage, interactive exhibits, kiosks, trade show booths, and all aspects of 3D components for interior or exterior environments, such as retail centers, sales offices and sports facilities. Some of their clients include the Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix International Raceway, Arizona Cardinals, Pulte Homes, Westcor, and Children’s Museum of Phoenix.
Its officially been one year since our studio moved from Tempe to our new crib in Phoenix. Wow, how things have evolved this past year. First of all, moving a design and fabrication shop during a brutally hot Arizona August, was not a task to look forward to. However, once the excitement of our new place took over the move went really easy.

We have settled in over the past 12 months. Of course, the collection of project boards and older office imaging still remain in various areas throughout the office. Its hard to prioritize our own imaging needs when we are busy with client projects and keeping things running smoothly during a down economy. I suppose that’s a project we will get to at some point.

The much needed office space and fabrication area has been a tremendous asset to us this past year. There has been a lot of signage, graphics printed, custom fabrication, POP prototypes produced and some really cool projects over the past 12 month. Some of our completed projects would have been virtually impossible in the old place. We have been able to add to our fabrication equipment as production needs allowed. This next year we will be looking to the future and hoping the worse of the bad economy days are behind us all.

We have a great team, wonderful clients and thankful everyday for the opportunity to do what we love!

Cheers!

Shad and Sandy Bruce

DD&F + D-Backs Continues to = A Winning Team

Detail Design and Fabrication, Inc. ( DD&F) is proud to be the Official Sign and Graphic Partner for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2007-2009. During the past 8 years our relationship has continued to develop and grow. The D-Backs continue to enhance not only their brand, but their overall fan experience. Becoming a sponsor has not only helped DD&F establish other contracts across the valley, but has also helped us further show our commitment to the organization. We will forever be D-Back fans! Now let’s Play Ball!

On 10th Anniversary Local Firm Celebrates Winning Relationship with D-backs

Tempe, Ariz. (April 7, 2008) – Shad Bruce launched Detail Design & Fabrication (DD&F) ten years ago to meet the specialty graphics and fabrication needs of architects, retailers and developers. Specializing in innovative signage and custom environments, the firm’s portfolio includes a wide variety of Valley organizations, such as Phoenix International Raceway, Westcor, Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, Pulte Homes, Baer Brakes, Tempe Autoplex, and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

One of the firm’s most exciting benchmarks came in 2007 when DD&F was named official sign and graphics partner for the Arizona Diamondbacks (also celebrating their 10th anniversary this spring). That same year, when the team switched their colors and logo, DD&F stepped up to the plate to makeover the massive Chase Field ballpark.

“We pride ourselves in really being a ‘soup to nuts’ creative partner and can therefore make the most out of any space we are assigned to enhance – indoor or outdoor, big or small,” said Bruce. With a staff of clever and capable designers, large format printing capabilities and state-of-the-art fabrication equipment all under one roof, the firm is capable of tackling all aspects of highly-customized projects, such as those demanded by a large-scale rebranding assignment at Chase Field.

Not only did the firm produce and install countless new sign and graphics components for the team and sponsors, but they also helped to mastermind and install an entirely new kid-friendly interactive play area to open this month on the third level concourse. Overlooking left field, The Sandlot, which is sponsored by St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, will include a play ground, toddler play area, and Future’s Field which is essentially a miniature version of Chase Field where kids can knock one out of the park.

“From the beginning DD&F has been comprised of passionate individuals doing what they love to do: innovate and create – fusing the newest technologies in computer-aided design and the oldest technology known to man, his own two hands,” said Bruce.

Other high profile projects include the design, fabrication and installation of a new sign program for Phoenix International Raceway, to enhance ease of traffic flow for the tens of thousands of fans that flock to the venue on race days. The project also succeeded in giving the 44-year-old venue a more current-day look and resulted in creative new sponsorship opportunities for corporations and local business desiring visibility in and around the venue.

While the firm can tackle these large-scale projects, their ingenuity has also made them Westcor’s “go to” resource for smaller, more strategic solutions at their local malls. When the company needed the customer service areas at their malls in Chandler and Paradise Valley revamped, DD&F devised a plan to help them optimize these spaces while adding visibility and increasing the presence of mall security.

About Detail Design and Fabrication, Inc. ( DD&F )
DD&F specialties include innovative signage, interactive exhibits, kiosks, trade show booths, and all aspects of 3D components for interior or exterior environments, such as retail centers, sales offices and sports facilities. Some of their clients include the Arizona Diamondbacks, Pulte Homes, Westcor, and Children’s Museum of Phoenix. For more information, please visit their newly renovated website at www.ddandf.com.
